The Role of Natural Medicine in Cancer Treatment - Providence Cancer Center’s Integrative Medicine Program invites you to learn about safe and scientifically sound natural therapies that may help you stay cancer-free, or improve your response to cancer treatment when coping with cancer. Providence St.Vincent Soaring Crane Qigong - For all physical abilities, this 8 week class uses imagery, meditation and slow continuous movements done standing or sitting to help move and direct qi (energy). Potential benefits from this ancient Chinese practice include pain management, improved concentration, increased energy and well being. (Not recommended for those with bipolar or schizophrenic conditions). Instructors are certified through the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine.

Providence St.Vincent Changing from the Inside Out (Weight Management) - Get to the root of your weight problem by identifying thoughts and feelings that affect your eating and activity patterns. You'll learn new skills to overcome emotional eating patterns, in this ten week group program.

Providence St. Vincent Changing from the Inside Out, Phase II - In this follow-up class to Changing from the Inside Out, you will look back at what you learned in the first class, and learn new skills to address the emotional barriers to weight management. This is a four week session, meeting every other week. Completion of Changing from the Inside Out is required to take this class.
Fee: $85. Providence Health Plans members: $80.

Monday, September 17, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Providence St.Vincent Groovin’ A New Weigh – For Women Only (Weight Management) - Designed for women, this eight week program guarantees a boost of energy and support from certified professionals. Work in a motivating group atmosphere with a registered dietician and fitness specialist on making healthier food choices and sticking with an exercise program. Most classes include a 30-minute exercise component designed to educate and develop an exercise program that you can do at home-on the ball. (Dress in loose comfortable clothing and athletic shoes for sessions 2-8. Not suitable for those with medical conditions that limit physical activity. Pedometer included.) Note: Not recommended to take with/at the same time as "Changing from the Inside Out"-(both classes are a lot of good work and may be overwhelming to do in the same term).

Smoking Cessation - Based upon the American Lung Association's Freedom From Smoking program, Providence Pharmacist-Assisted Smoking Cessation Classes are designed to help you quit smoking for good. You will learn a systematic approach to quitting through behavior modification techniques, coping skills, social support, and information on weight management and stress management. In addition to behavioral support, a pharmacist will assess your need for medication and eight weeks of medication, nicotine patches, Bupropion (Zyban), or Varenicline (Chantix), is provided free to participants who attend the classes.
Fee: $225. Providence Health Plans members: $15.
