C. Vivian Stringer

Vivian Stringer

Rutgers University women’s basketball head coach C. Vivian Stringer can claim a long list of achievements: leading three teams to the NCAA national semifinals, earning a spot in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame, helping the U.S. win an Olympic gold medal, and named one of the most influential minorities in sports.

But her greatest accomplishment may have taken place outside the game. The 5-foot-3 coalminer’s daughter from western Pennsylvania has taught millions of young women how to succeed through perseverance, grace and dignity.
