Michael Bower, M.D.
Board Certified: Internal Medicine
Dr. Bower earned his medical degree in 1973, graduating from St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Providence Portland Medical Center, and currently serves as medical director of the Gateway Medical Group.
“As a primary care giver, I believe in treating the whole person,” says Dr. Bower. “Medical conditions aren’t always isolated problems. They may be the result of several factors in a person’s life, and all of these factors may need to be addressed to restore health.” Dr. Bower emphasizes prevention in his approach to medical care.
In his free time, Dr. Bower enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer.
Richard Hsu, M.D.
Board Certified: Internal Medicine
Dr. Hsu’s goal is to be a partner in his patients’ health care, providing the best possible care while emphasizing education and prevention. “A successful doctor-patient partnership requires participation and commitment from both sides,” he says. “The better my patients understand their condition, the better we can work together toward improved health.”
Dr. Hsu is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Providence Portland Medical Center.
Born in Taiwan, Dr. Hsu spent most of his life in Chicago before moving to Portland for his residency. He speaks Taiwanese and Mandarin in addition to English.
Linda Hungerford, M.D.
Board Certified: Internal Medicine
Dr. Hungerford feels that active, careful listening is the key to good primary care. “Patients want to know they have been heard,” she says. “I believe a physician who knows her patients well provides the best care. Continuity is the true basis of primary care.”
Linda earned her medical degree at Oregon Health Sciences University. She completed both her residency and internship at Providence Portland Medical Center. She is board certified in internal medicine.
An Oregon native, Linda speaks German and a little Nepali — the result of six months of missionary work in Nepal. She and her husband continue to support medical and mission work in developing countries. They have three children.
Nick Misra, M.D.
Board Certified: Internal Medicine and Geriatrics
Dr. Misra emphasizes the importance of communication in his relationships with patients. “Open communication is vital for knowing a patient’s health concerns and goals,” he says. “I also believe that understanding an individual’s personality and knowing their social circumstances are important components of their care.”
Board certified in both internal medicine and geriatrics, Dr. Misra earned his medical degree at the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the same university and a fellowship in geriatrics at Oregon Health & Science University.
A native of Chicago, Dr. Misra lived throughout the Midwest before moving to Portland. Away from his medical practice, he enjoys music and the arts in general.
Marianne Parshley, M.D.
Board Certified: Internal Medicine
Dr. Parshley is a strong advocate of medical care that concentrates on the whole patient. “I work to provide comprehensive medical care to the whole patient, recognizing that health is affected by all parts of an individual’s life,” she says. “Preventive services are an important component of comprehensive care,” she adds.
Her medical degree was attained at Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, New Hampshire.She completed a three-year internal medicine residency at Providence PortlandMedical Center, and spent an additional year there as chief medical resident.
Dr. Parshley is married and has three children. She enjoys spending time withher family, as well as hiking, skiing, gardening, knitting and reading.
Lisa Paul, M.D.
Board Certified: Internal Medicine
When asked what she finds most rewarding about being a physician, Dr. Paul responds, “Making people feel better and getting to know them over many years.” She prefers a teamwork approach in her practice, involving her patients in their health care decisions. “I see my role as two-fold,” she says. “First is to emphasize health maintenance and prevention. And second, in the event of an illness, to help coordinate care so my patients don’t get lost in a sea of specialists.”
A native Oregonian, Dr. Paul earned her medical degree at Oregon Health Sciences University, and completed her internship and residency at Providence Portland Medical Center. She is board certified in internal medicine.
Dr. Paul and her husband, Greg, have two daughters, Leighton and Ava. When she’s not seeing patients, Dr. Paul likes travelling and spending time with family and friends.
Madhu Potla, M.D.
Board Certified: Internal Medicine
Dr. Potla considers her most important role, as a physician is to help patients understand their medical problems and guide them in making better lifestyle choices. “I believe in providing comprehensive and preventative health care,” she says. “Making a positive impact in someone’s life brings me the greatest joy.”
Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Potla earned her medical degree at Osmania Medical College, University of Health Sciences, India. She completed her internship and residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, N.Y.
Born and raised in India, Dr. Potla speaks Hindi and Telugu. Away from her practice, she enjoys traveling, reading or spending time with her family and friends.
