Pankaj A. Gore, M.D.

Co-medical director, Cranial Services at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center
Providence Brain Institute

Pankaj Gore, M.D., is a neurosurgeon specializing in neuro-oncology and skull base surgery, cerebrovascular neurosurgery, minimally invasive neurosurgery, and complex spine surgery. He joined Microneurosurgical Consultants, P.C., and Providence Brain Institute in August 2008. Dr. Gore, an active research scientist, was involved with developing innovative endoscopic neurosurgical approaches to the skull base during his fellowship at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dr. Gore has used intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) technology throughout his residency and fellowship-level training. His skill in the use of iMRI technology is a critical component of the Providence Brain Institute’s dedication to defining tomorrow for comprehensive care of patients with neurological conditions. When the new iMRI surgical suite is in place on the campus of Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in mid-2009, it will be the first iMRI of its kind on the West Coast. For appropriate brain tumors, iMRI can improve the extent of tumor resection by allowing real-time assessment of brain position and residual tumor during surgery.

Major Accomplishments

  • Dr. Gore is a widely published researcher and author. His work has appeared in peer-reviewed publications, including Journal of Neurosurgery, Neurosurgery and Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism.
  • Dr. Gore has contributed chapters to “Cervical Spine Trauma,” “Surgery of the Cerebellopontine Angle” and “Neurosurgery Tricks of the Trade.”
  • Dr. Gore has presented at national meetings of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, North American Skull Base Society, International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery and the Society for Neuroscience.

Vision for the Future

“Providence Health & Services has made a substantial investment to ensure cutting-edge neurosurgical technology for our patients. I will utilize these resources to help build Providence Brain Institute into a regional, and eventually national, referral center for the treatment of neuro-oncological and skull base disorders,” says Dr. Gore. “The success of such a center will require multidisciplinary collaboration among neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, radiation oncologists, neuro-radiologists, neuro-pathologists and neuro-rehabilitation specialists. I also envision a robust research division engaged in both basic science and translational brain tumor research.”
