Meet Our Faculty & Staff

 

William R. Gillanders, M.D.William R. Gillanders, M.D.
Director, Providence Milwaukie Hospital Family Medicine Residency
Clinical Professor, Oregon Health and Science University

Dr. Gillanders believes in the importance of integrating knowledge of biology, psychology and cultural context into each patient's treatment plan. Part of the joy and challenge of family medicine is working with people of all ages and both sexes. In addition to treating patients, he also directs the Providence Milwaukie Hospital Family Practice Residency Program. “I enjoy providing excellent clinical care in a stimulating learning environment for the residents.”

Dr. Gillanders received his medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco. He completed his residency at the University of Washington and practiced for 10 years in White Salmon, Washington, before pursuing an academic career. He directed successful residency programs in Ohio and California before joining the Providence team.

Dr. Gillanders and his wife, enjoy skiing, hiking, biking and scuba diving. They have five grown children and five grandchildren

Cynthia Talbot, M.D.Cynthia Talbot, M.D.
Director, Providence Family Medicine - Milwaukie

Dr. Talbot likes working in partnership with her patients to help them build healthy lifestyles and cope with their medical problems. She received her medical degree from the University of California Berkeley-UC San Francisco Joint Medical Program. Dr. Talbot completed her internship and residency in family medicine at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound and completed a fellowship in faculty development at the University of Washington. She has been involved in teaching medical students and residents since 1987 and believes this keeps her challenged and up-to-date.


Tom Schwartz, M.D.Tom Schwartz, M.D.
Director, Providence Family Medicine - Southeast

Dr. Schwartz earned his medical degree and completed his family practice residency at the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Madison. He speaks fluent Spanish. His philosophy of care includes respect for people of all cultures and sensitivity to their different beliefs regarding health and illness. "Probably the most rewarding aspect of my job is building ongoing relationships with families as I help them live healthier lives together."

J. Christopher Anderson, M.D.J. Christopher Anderson, M.D.
Providence Family Medicine - Milwaukie

After earning his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Dr. Anderson completed his internship and residency in family practice at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver. He is board certified in family practice.

Dr. Anderson left a career in electrical engineering for one in medicine because being a physician gives him the opportunity to interact with people in a more meaningful way. “A physician can act as a guide, a mentor, and a companion during difficult times; all are important. I enjoy and value the chance to develop lasting relationships with my patients and their families.”

Dr. Anderson can speak Spanish, having studied the language in California and Nicaragua. He is married and has three children.


Ralph Bramucci, Ph.D. Ralph Bramucci, Ph.D.
Dr. Bramucci is a behavioral scientist/psychologist who has worked in the field of psychology for 30 years. He worked in Caracas, Venezuela, for eight years with underserved adolescents and families, where he established residential treatment centers for youth. He received his doctorate from the University of Oregon, was on the State Board of Psychologists for seven years, and was program director in various clinical areas for 20 years with Mt. Hood Community Mental Health Center. Dr. Bramucci's approach to mental health is to help people become aware of their need to take charge of their lives, understand the implications of behavioral choices, and learn skills to remedy some conditions that get in the way of their happiness and health. He has worked with a wide variety of conditions affecting both adults and children. He believes strongly in treating people within the context of their family and social network. Dr. Bramucci provides assessment and therapy for individuals, couples and families. He values the importance of treating the whole person in medicine and not merely looking at a disease or illness.


Mari Ricker, M.D.Jessica Burness, M.D.
Providence Family Medicine - Milwaukie

Dr. Burness decided to become a family medicine physician in order to form meaningful personal relationships with her patients. "I enjoy the broad, holistic approach of family medicine, which provides the opportunity to work with patients in the context of their lives, their families and their communities," she says. Dr. Burness received her medical degree from Brown University, where she also completed her undergraduate studies in biology. She completed her residency at Oregon Health & Science University. When not practicing medicine, Dr. Burness enjoys reading, writing, bicycling, hiking and cooking.


Marc B. Carey, M.D.Marc B. Carey, M.D., Ph.D.
Providence Family Medicine - Southeast

As a family physician, Dr. Carey enjoys helping his patients achieve their health goals. To accomplish this, he feels there must be clear and open communication. “To have an effective, trusting partnership with my patients, we must be willing to listen,” he says. “I find the best way to do this is to share life stories.” Dr. Carey earned both a doctorate in neuroscience and his medical degree from Oregon Health and Science University. A native Oregonian, Dr. Carey is married and has two children. For fun and relaxation, he collects comic books, does jigsaw puzzles and rides his Harley Davidson motorcycle.


Marietta Choe, M.D.Marietta Choe, M.D.
Providence Family Medicine - Southeast

Dr. Choe is board certified in family practice. She graduated from the University of California Davis School of Medicine, and completed her residency and internship at Ventura County Medical Center in California. Born in Korea, Dr. Choe grew up mostly in California. She speaks fluent English and Korean, in addition to some medical Spanish. For fun, she enjoys good food, good movies, and a rousing game of ultimate Frisbee. Dr. Choe takes a special interest in obstetrics and other women's care issues, as well as helping patients manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. “I help my patients take care of themselves by helping them become aware of their own health status and teaching them about preventive care.”


Robert Gobbo, M.D.Robert Gobbo, M.D.
Providence Family Medicine - Southeast

Dr. Gobbo joined the faculty in the summer of 2004. He graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine in 1984 and completed his family practice residency at Santa Monica Medical Center. Upon completing an FP/OB fellowship in 1988 in Santa Monica, he began his practice in rural Oregon, where he served as the medical director for a community and migrant health center for five years. Until joining our faculty this summer, he was the associate director and faculty for the Merced Family Practice Residency, University of California, Davis Family Practice Network from 1993 to 2004.

Dr. Gobbo has a passionate interest in maternity care and has delivered over 3000 babies and performed over 700 cesarean sections. He has authored chapters in obstetrical textbooks, the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics syllabus and the American Family Physician. He is a popular speaker, has been a key member of the core faculty for the AAFP's Family Centered Maternity Care Conferences since 1995 and has given numerous lectures around the United States and Canada to both medical and community groups. His other professional interests include colposcopy, office ultrasound critical care and cross-cultural medicine.

“There is nothing more rewarding in the calling of medicine than helping families through difficult transitions in their lives. Whether that is the birth of a child, the return to a state of wellness from illness or injury or the loss of loved one. I am truly privileged to be included in the sanctity of people's lives.”


Elizabeth Klein, M.D.Elizabeth Klein, M.D.
Providence Family Medicine - Milwaukie

Dr. Klein is board certified in family practice. She received her medical degree at the University of Southern California and completed her internship and residency at Santa Monica Hospital in California. She also holds a master’s degree in medical education. “I especially like taking care of whole families — newborns, teens, young adults and elderly people. I love medicine, the science and the art.”


Charlotte is a 1973 Graduate of Research College of Nursing in Kansas City, Mo. She is certified as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse by the American Nurses Credentialing Center of the American Nurses Association and began her career as a psychiatric nurse. She has additional training in crisis intervention, end-of-life care discussions, dementia screening, domestic violence, and abuse/neglect in children and the elderly.

Charlotte performs mental health and chemical dependency assessments in the clinic, coordination of care between clinic and PHS/ community agencies/resources, and management of the difficult patient and the chronic pain patient with addictions. She is a member of the Behavioral Science Committee, coordinates the Community Medicine Month, co-coordinator of the Home/Facility Visit Program, and facilitator of the Intern Support Group. Charlotte enjoys gardening, concerts, camping.


Mari Ricker, M.D.Mari Ricker, M.D.
Providence Family Medicine - Milwaukie

Dr. Ricker emphasizes a holistic approach in her medical practice. “I focus on integrative medicine, which is a combination of alternative and conventional medicine,” she says. “This approach to care takes into consideration the whole person – their mind, body and spirit – including all aspects of lifestyle.”

Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Ricker earned her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson. She completed her internship and residency at Oregon Health & Science University, serving as chief resident in 2005-06.

Dr. Ricker was born in England, but grew up in Arizona. Her hobbies include yoga, hiking, running, knitting and “laughter.”


Glenn Rodriguez, M.D.Glenn Rodriguez, M.D.
Providence Family Medicine - Southeast

Dr. Rodriguez joined Providence Health & Services in 1997 as a family physician and regional director of Population Health Improvement Programs. In 1998, he became Medical Director of Health Services Integration. In 2000, he took on added responsibilities for Quality Improvement — an area to which he is passionately committed. Dr. Rodriguez speaks nationally on quality improvement issues and has implemented clinical improvement programs in a variety of settings.

Dr. Rodriguez is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. He completed his family practice residency in the University of Washington network at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound. He is board certified in family practice, and has a Certificate of Added Qualifications in geriatrics. His practice at Providence Family Medicine — Southeast emphasizes geriatrics.

Before joining Providence, Dr. Rodriguez was the medical director of PacifiCare of Oregon. He also has served as director of patient care and assistant professor of family medicine for the Department of Family Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and as clinical director for the U.S. Public Health Service Indian Health Service, Navajo Area, in Crownpoint, New Mexico. He is currently an adjunct associate professor of family medicine at OHSU. Dr. Rodriguez was instrumental in establishing the Providence Milwaukie Family Practice Residency.


Mike Waddick, M.D.
Providence Family Medicine - Southeast

Dr. Waddick's decision to become a physician was based partly on his strong desire to provide compassionate care to those who are medically underserved. "I believe in treating the whole person," he says. "By this, I mean looking beyond a patient's acute symptoms and taking into account the social and cultural context in which their health issues are occurring." Board certified in family medicine, Dr. Waddick earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in Madison. He completed his internship and residency at Swedish Family Medicine in Seattle. Dr. Waddick was born in Milwaukee, WI. Away from his medical practice, he enjoys spending time windsurfing, hiking and camping. Dr. Waddick is also fluent in Spanish.
