Student Rotations

Family Medicine student rotations are offered in each of the two residency clinics and are available in four-week blocks only.

PMFMRP has two Family Practice Centers, Providence Family Medicine Milwaukie (PFM-M) and Providence Family Medicine SE (PFM-SE). They are both state-of-the-art clinics with special dedication to the poor and vulnerable and emphasis in Geriatric, adolescent medicine and ever-growing OB and Pediatric populations. PFM-SE has a large immigrant population.

Unfortunately, space is limited to one student per clinic at any given time, so please inquire early.

Sub-Internships
Providence Milwaukie Family Medicine Sub-Internship offers a four-week sub-internship in Family Medicine for fourth-year medical students. The sub-internship is an intensive, rigorous experience in which students will spend two weeks on inpatient service and two weeks at Providence Family Medicine Milwaukie (PFM-M) or Providence Family Medicine SE (PFM-SE). As much as possible, sub-interns will be given opportunities to demonstrate skills at the level of an incoming intern.

On inpatient service, students will be responsible for closely following patients, managing their care under the guidance and supervision of residents and faculty, and presenting their patients at morning report. Students will also be expected to work with their team’s coverage of patient calls, ER admissions, and inpatient care. In clinic, students will work with a senior resident or faculty preceptor, seeing a wide variety of patients. Under the supervision of their preceptors, students will be expected to write chart notes in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and to help provide ancillary care such as interpreting x-rays, reading EKGs, etc. If scheduled at an off-campus outpatient clinic, students will be responsible for arranging for their own transportation by car or bus. For more information, please contact the course coordinator.
