Clinical research at the Franz Cancer Research Center in the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute at Providence Cancer Center is conducted under the leadership of Walter J. Urba, M.D., Ph.D.; and his colleagues at Providence Cancer Center Oncology and Hematology Care Clinics. These medical providers are board-certified medical oncologists and also are members of the Columbia River Oncology Program, which participates in national clinical trials of the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG); the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP); the Gynecological Oncology Group (GOG); and the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG).
Gastrointestinal cancer research Todd Crocenzi, M.D., is exploring ways in which immunotherapy can be integrated effectively into standard treatments for colorectal cancer and other cancers of the gastrointestinal system.
Genitourinary cancer research Brendan Curti, M.D., focuses on developing biotherapies to treat malignancies of the prostate, kidney and bladder.
Lymphoma and testis cancer research Craig R. Nichols, M.D., director of clinical program development at the Franz Cancer Research Center, is developing more effective therapies for testicular cancer, Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
