“I’m interested in seeing the birth of a new awakening, in which the sky becomes closer to the earth, re-establishing that the self does not stop at the self, but is limitless.” – Piero Resta
With support from the community, cancer patients visiting the sixth floor of the new Providence Cancer Center will have an inspiring painting of extraordinary beauty to enjoy as they sit for long hours to receive life-saving chemotherapy treatments.
Entitled "The River Flow," the painting was commissioned by medical oncologist Brendan Curti, M.D., and lab chief Andrew Weinberg, Ph.D. Through their frequent collaborations to translate scientific discoveries into new treatments for patients with advanced cancers and few other options, the two men know first-hand how a beautiful environment can help reduce the stress and discomfort patients and families feel following a cancer diagnosis.
About the artist Piero Resta was was born in Voghera, Italy, in 1940 and studied art in Paris, London and Spain as a young man. Today he resides in Hawaii, where the fragrant, dramatic, lyrical and lush landscapes have inspired some of the most prolific periods of his career.
