Dr. Handy, Co-Director Dr. Sanborn, Co-Director

John Handy, M.D., HonD, and Rachel Sanborn, M.D., medical co-directors

Welcome to the Thoracic Oncology Program at Providence Cancer Center. We are a team of doctors, nurses, social workers and researchers striving to provide and promote the best possible care to people with cancers of the chest, of which the most common is lung cancer. We are also dedicated to the care of people with cancers of the esophagus and thymus, as well as mesothelioma and all other chest cancers.

New lung cancer clinic now open
The Thoracic Oncology Program is pleased to announce that our program now offers a multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Clinic as a resource for patient care. Providers from multiple specialties collaborate to evaluate and plan treatment for each patient over the course of just one office visit. Learn more.

Ultimately, the Thoracic Oncology Program aims to improve outcomes for patients with lung, esophageal and other chest cancers.

Hallmarks of our program include:

  • Weekly multidisciplinary chest conferences for managing patients’ care
