Case Mix

  • Case Mix 2005-2008

    For terms definitions see below
Given the large number of thoracic surgeries we perform, Providence is in a unique position to be the regional quality leader. We track outcomes for all chest surgeries performed in our medical centers. Our Thoracic Surgery Program surgeons participate in quarterly quality assessment meetings where treatment patterns are evaluated based on statistical data and evidence-based medical research. By monitoring our operative complications and mortality, we strive to out-perform national standards in patient care and the surgical treatment of chest diseases.

  • Demographics: Mean Age 2005-2008

Patients typically undergo thoracic surgery later in life, when other diseases intrude upon the patients' overall health. The average ages of patients undergoing a variety of different procedures at the Providence Thoracic Surgery Program reflect this fact.

  • Demographics: Gender 2005-2008

The gender breakdown in this graph is unusual. Nationally, about 7 in 10 chest cancer patients are male. In Oregon, men and women are about equally affected by these diseases.
