Diagnostic evaluations determine the acuity of an eating disorder. The evaluation includes: A complete history, including previous attempts at eating disorder recovery Consideration of medical and psychiatric factors Assessment of motivation Treatment recommendations Referrals to specialists at varying levels of care
Evaluations may lead to entry into the program or can lead to establishing treatment at higher or lower levels of care. Day treatment is an intensive, structured full-day program offered five days a week. During the nine and a half hour treatment day, patients participate in: Ongoing physical assessment Meal therapy groups Group and individual therapy addressing thoughts, feelings and behavioral choices Family therapy Nutritional evaluation and counseling Relapse prevention planning and discharge planning
As individuals progress toward their treatment goals, they begin to transition from the program by decreasing the number of days they attend treatment each week. Transitioning helps build confidence to manage symptoms in everyday home and community living.
