The Goldman-Berland Lecturer in Palliative Medicine

The Goldman-Berland Lecturer in Palliative Medicine is a clinical practitioner noted for excellence in palliative and end-of-life care invited by the center for two-days dedicated to educating physicians and internal medicine residents about caring for patients with life-threatening illness and other aspects of palliative medicine.

The lectureship is named for two Providence physicians, deceased oncologist Robert Goldman, and retired internist John Berland, both role models for exemplary end-of-life care. During the two-day lectureship the presenter speaks at Medical Grand Rounds and presents other sessions with internal medicine residents and sessions for other targeted groups.

Past lecturers and topics for Medical Grand Rounds include:
Steven Pantilat, M.D., FACP,  University of California, San Francisco, “Palliative Care: What it Offers Patients and Clinicians”
Ira Byock, M.D., Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, “What are Doctors For? The Patient-Physician Relationship through the End of Life”
