Suzanne M. Hall, M.D. and F.A.C.C., Medical Director
After joining Providence Heart and Vascular Institute in April 2005, Dr. Hall began developing a new program focused on prevention, treatment and rehabilitation for women with cardiovascular disease.
Her plans for Providence Women and Heart Disease Program integrate multiple facets of cardiovascular health care, including preventive education focusing on nutrition, diabetes management, exercise and vascular wellness, and comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation.
In addition to her leadership role with Providence, she maintains a busy practice with Columbia Cardiology Associates in Portland and lectures frequently throughout the community to raise awareness about the risks and symptoms of heart disease in women.
Dr. Hall earned her medical degree at Oregon Health & Science University. She completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital and Medical Center before completing a Cardiology fellowship at the University of Utah Medical Center (Salt Lake City).
Major accomplishments
1985: Founder and former director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital and Medical Center (Portland, Oregon).
Key fact: First Portland program that incorporated an outpatient and long-distance phone-based program for patients who had experienced a heart attack, valve replacement or cardiac bypass surgery.
Former director of Legacy Meridian Park Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
Key fact: Dr. Hall was the first woman to serve as president of the Legacy Meridian Park Hospital medical staff.
Miles Hassell, M.D.
Board-certified internist Miles Hassell was raised and educated in Australia. He earned his medical degree from the University of Western Australia and went on to complete his medical internship with the same institution. He then moved to Portland, Oregon, where he completed his internal medicine residency with Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
As medical director of the Providence Integrative Medicine Program, Dr. Hassell partners with patients looking to improve their health via methods such as acupuncture, massage and complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). He specializes in patient-directed, noninvasive, non-pharmacological approaches to medicine, with an emphasis on exercise, diet and natural medicines.
Jody Welborn, M.D.
Cardiologist Jody Welborn is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease. She earned her medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University before completing her internal medicine residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center (San Antonio). Her training also includes a cardiology fellowship at the University of Alabama (Birmingham).
Dr. Welborn’s ties to the latter universities also include instructor-based roles: she was both a former assistant professor of Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease at the University of Alabama (Birmingham), and a clinical instructor in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center (San Antonio).
Currently, Dr. Welborn serves as medical director of the Providence Heart and Vascular Institute’s Echocardiography Program at Providence Portland Medical Center. In addition to her leadership role with Providence, she maintains a busy practice with The Oregon Clinic in Portland and will serve as the Summer 2006 U.S. Sports Medicine Committee Chair for the World Aquatic Championships.
