At Gately Summer Academy, kids can have real fun while building real skills! Kids will meet new friends and enjoy interesting activities. The summer camps are designed specifically to help kids enhance their reading and writing, math, and social thinking skills in creative, energetic ways.
All camps are six-week sessions held at Providence Gately Academy, 205 N.E. 50th Ave., in Portland.
Choose from the following sessions:
Reading/Writing Academy
4th–6th graders
Monday–Thursday, 9–11:30 a.m.
Campers will focus on reading fluency and comprehension, word attack, decoding, vocabulary development, use of graphic organizers and the writing process. They will work individually and in small groups to complete fun, hands-on projects. Each camper will receive an individual student assessment and a comprehensive written report at the end of the session. Each camper will create a portfolio of writing samples that can be shared with his or her teacher in the fall.
Math Academy
4th–6th graders
Monday–Thursday, Noon–2:30 p.m.
This summer model addresses fundamental skill development plus true application of those skills. Campers will work individually as well as collaboratively in small and large groups to problem-solve life's mathematical questions, such as bus schedules, telling time, cooking measurements and standard measurements. Hands-on, multi-sensory instruction will keep our mathematicians active and engaged.
Social Thinking Summer Camp
6th–9th graders
Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–Noon, or
Monday–Thursday, 12:30–3:30 p.m.
This camp is designed to enhance students' social interactions. The focus will be on providing social thinking skills through fun indoor/outdoor practice-oriented activities, cooperative games, and twice-weekly community outings to pre-arranged locations where campers can use social thinking skills with new people in various settings. The curriculum will differ between morning and afternoon sessions so that campers can register for both sessions and receive a different experience at each.
Registration deadline: May 26
Cost is $550 per session. Enrollment is limited to eight students per session. Applications are due no later than May 26 and will be processed in the order in which they are received. Students enrolled in both Reading/Writing and Math camps will enjoy a supervised lunch break and activities. Parents are responsible for providing sack lunches.
