Quality Performance

We encourage you to compare Providence's quality of care to other organizations to see how we measure up. You'll find many sites on the Internet that report on health care quality — some good, some not so good. See our Reader's Guide for suggestions about how to use trusted Web sites and other resources to evaluate quality.

Start with Hospital Compare

We recommend that you start with Hospital Compare, a Web site developed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in collaboration with organizations that represent hospitals, doctors and nurses, employers, accrediting organizations, federal agencies and the general public. Hospital Compare provides data on the quality of care provided in participating hospitals, and allows you to compare a hospital's quality performance to others.

Resources and Reports

Following are several sites from respected organizations whose information can be trusted:

  • Hospital Compare: (see above)
  • AHRQ The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, offers multiple reports and tools for measuring health care quality and safety on its Web site.
  • OHPR: The Web site of the Office for Oregon Health Policy and Research posts a number of reports comparing hospital quality and costs in Oregon.
  • The Oregon PricePoint System: Provided by the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems, this Web site shares information about specific procedures performed in hospitals, including the number performed, the average length of a hospital stay for that procedure, and the average charge for the procedure.
