When Should I Contact My Representatives?
You want to contact your legislator when you have a particular concern about a piece of legislation. This should not, however, be the only time you contact him/her. All of us are put-off by someone who is always asking for something and never offering anything in return.
Make a habit of contacting your legislators when they are home for recesses. Re-introduce yourself each time you see them. They will appreciate your graciousness in allowing them to avoid the embarrassment of forgetting a name. Also, be sure to thank your legislator every time he/she responds to a request. You would be surprised at how seldom a legislator receives thanks for his/her efforts on behalf of a constituent.
