In Your Own Words: A Selection of Responses to Open-Ended Survey Questions

Q. Are there topics you would like to see included in the Past Forward newsletter?

I rely on you experts to keep me interested!

How the Sisters of Providence fit into the historical context; e.g., were our schools/hospitals among the first in the city/state/nation?

How do our Archives make connections with other SP provinces' Archives - if they do and how is it or is it relevant to us in MJP?

It's always helpful to have information/stories about our organization's past be related to our present and future. For example, how a particular event in the past drives something today.

Anything on new media or technology being used to recapture and spread access to early information is always interesting to me.

Anything that would be beneficial to all Providence employees that I could add to our internal newsletter here at PCH.

Quotes from Providence archives documents; more details about Providence during the 1900s.

Interesting quotes, stories and facts that we can use locally to further the mission in our own sites.

Stories about what the sisters did in Alaska.

Books written by Sisters of Providence.

I would like a more in-depth description and illustration (pictures) on what the archivists are currently working on.

Biographical sketches to notable SP in Province history.  Maybe a column--100 years ago, a special happening in Province history.

I enjoy *all* that is featured in Past Forward.  I think your department is in tune with archival features.

I enjoy the historic articles and old pictures.

Continued history of Providence Leadership responsible for new ventures in mission and ministries--& stories of individual religious.

Historical lives of individual sisters that exemplify a core value, characteristic, or moral quality.

Historical perspectives on issues of current interest (e.g. paying for health care, immigration, epidemic diseases, drugs) if there is someone who has time to do the research!

Q. Do you have any additional comments?

Photos with quick, short captions comparing "then" and "now" might be interesting and fun.

Thank you for the great job you do at the Archives.

I love this connection because the past, present, and future are all connected, and I enjoy knowing about our roots.

You folks are doing GREAT! Cannot imagine how it could be improved. Keep up the great work! :-)

I know that it is a huge job trying to document everything that happens within this huge organization. You guys do a wonderful job :)

Congratulations!  And thanks for the idea of sharing the copies.  I had not thought to do that as I collect them sequentially.

Excellent work!  Thank you.

1) I thought you did a wonderful service for all of us in the historic stories of the sisters coming to the West during the 150th anniversary year. 2) I think we sisters automatically receive notice of each issue of Fast Forward through our broadcast email. Thanks.

I am most grateful that you are recording the history of our community.  Thank you for all you do.

Great way to keep us in touch with our roots and I thank the Archives personnel for making the SP history alive in our lives.

Nice job! This is a helpful way to learn more of our history in smaller tid bits over time.

I would LOVE to see a new book written about the life of Emilie Gamelin.  I have not found one that is appropriate for me to use with our leadership team, something in the line of "The Bell and the River." Thanks.

The newsletter is a valuable outreach and educational tool.  The strength of the newsletter is in its mix of archive news and Providence history.  Keep up the good work!

Thanks for your good work.  I do read the archives news letter, but my interest is mostly in what sisters have done with and for the poor throughout history, and quotes and photos from some of our "giants"...Mother Joseph, those between that century and Sr. Providencia, or Ethel Richardson or Peter Claver or Bernadette Botch, or Michelle Holand, or.... Blessings on your work.

Thank you to the archives staff who truly have sense of SP charism, history and missions.

Past Forward is *very well done*, and it is *very* interesting.  When I finish reading it, I always want more to read!

I find it very valuable and informative.

You do a great job.  Thank you for the great work you do.

A wonderful media to share and educate!  Thank you!

I think that the Archives is doing a great job, and Past Forward is just one of many good things I experience!

I may have received Past Forward but, unfortunately, I have not had an opportunity to review it because of my work load.

We might also have a feature once in a while captioned, "Where are they today?"  This could apply to personalities from any of our works.

I really appreciate the Archives work and this publication.
