Providence Health International

Providence Health International (PHI), formerly called Providence International Missions, began in 1989.  PHI provides oversight and support for employees and institutions associated with Providence Health & Services in responding to health needs in economically developing countries.   Preference is given to activities that

  • Promote healthcare capacity
  • Establish ongoing relationships built on trust and mutual respect
  • Maximize benefits through collaboration
  • Create learning opportunities that are mutually beneficial

Providence Health International’s primary areas of involvement are:

Shipment of surplus medical supplies and equipment

  • In partnership with other Catholic health systems and international development organizations PHI manages a warehouse in Lacey, Washington to receive and prepare medical donations for shipment to hospitals and clinics in other countries.

Employee grants for international volunteers

  • Grants to cover travel and living expenses or the purchase of needed medical supplies are given to employees providing medically related services as short-term volunteers.

Ongoing Education

  • Financial support is given for ongoing clinical education of health professionals from other countries working in partnership with a Providence Health & Services institution.
  • Cross-cultural learning opportunities are provided for Providence employees in support of ministry formation and leadership development efforts.
