About the Area
Seward is located at the head of Resurrection Bay on the Kenai Peninsula, 126 miles south of
Anchorage. It’s one of Alaska’s oldest and most scenic communities. With more than 3,000
residents year-round, the population almost doubles during the tourist season. Seward offers many
outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking and kayaking.
Programs and Services
Providence Seward Medical and Care Center consists of a six-bed acute care facility and a 43-bed
long-term care facility. Services include emergency; inpatient hospital care; laboratory; radiology;
occupational, physical, and speech and language therapy; nutrition counseling; respiratory therapy;
family care clinic; home health care; and long-term care.
Emergency Services and Hospital Care
The emergency department is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week with registered nurses
certified in advanced cardiac life support, trauma nursing and pediatric advanced life support,
and with physicians who are board certified in either family medicine or emergency medicine.
Providence LifeGuard air ambulance service is available to transport patients to Providence Alaska
Medical Center in Anchorage.
The medical center houses two semiprivate rooms for acute care/short-stay patients and skilled
nursing admissions. The emergency department also provides stress/treadmill testing and Holter
monitoring for cardiac functioning, and diagnostic gastrointestinal tests including endoscopy and
colonoscopy.
Laboratory and Radiology
The laboratory offers extensive diagnostic testing
services on site. In-house tests include kidney,
hepatic, cardiac and metabolic panel, therapeutic
drug, hematology and coagulation monitoring.
Basic thyroid tests are performed, with specialized
evaluations sent to Providence Alaska Medical
Center via daily morning courier. The radiology
department provides X-ray, mammography, CT
scans and ultrasound exams, including vascular and
arterial Doppler. Through teleradiology, they transmit
films to Providence Alaska Medical Center where
radiologists interpret the films.
Physical, Occupational, and Speech
and Language Therapy
Therapists help patients achieve their highest levels of
mobility, strength, function, community integration,
and language and cognitive skills. The therapists work
closely with patients and families, assisting them in
the management of daily tasks.
Home Health Care
For patients unable to leave home, home health
nurses provide in-home medical services. Home
Health Care services include physical and
occupational therapy, medical social work, nutrition
counseling and certified nursing assistants. Home
health nurses work with varied populations such as
perinatal, pediatric, geriatric, hospice and other adult
patients.
Long-Term Care
Wesley Rehabilitation Care Center is a 44-bed, long-term
care facility that provides skilled and rehabilitation
services. The center is staffed by registered nurses,
licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants,
physical, occupational and speech therapists, and
activity and dietary staff who together develop individual
plans of care to help residents attain the best
possible quality of life.
Providence Seward Family Care Clinic
For day-to-day health needs of local residents and
visitors alike, Providence Seward Family Care
Clinic offers expert care by board-certified family
medicine physicians. Basic services are extended by
offering specialty clinics conducted by Anchorage
Area Board Certified Specialty Physicians in the
areas of pediatrics, orthopedics, pulmonology,
gastroenterology and otolaryngology. Women’s health
services are also available such as mammography,
colposcopy and annual examination.
