Oregon and Washington. The hospital is in the health system’s Southwest
Washington Service Area, which also includes Providence Centralia Hospital
and Providence Physician Network.
Providence St. Peter Hospital is a fully accredited, 390-bed acute and
outpatient care facility offering comprehensive medical, surgical and
behavioral health services. It serves as a regional referral center. It is the largest
hospital in a five-county area that has a population of about 500,000, with
half living in the greater Olympia/Thurston County area and the rest in four
surrounding rural counties.
About the Area
Situated at the southern tip of Puget Sound and only minutes away from the mountains
and the ocean, this area offers limitless year-round outdoor recreational opportunities. You
are also close enough to Seattle (about 60 miles) to enjoy all the benefits of the big city,
without the hassle.
If you are looking for excellent schools, friendly neighborhoods and a vibrant downtown,
Olympia is the place for you. It is the state capital, is home to three colleges, and serves as the
shopping, entertainment, cultural and health care hub for the southwest Washington region.
The housing options in our area are diverse and affordable. Whether you choose
waterfront, mountain views, country living or historic downtown neighborhoods, you’ll be
only minutes away from professional offices and our hospital – the lifestyle is that easy!
Facilities and Services
The trees, wetlands, walking paths and scenic views on Providence St. Peter Hospital’s
173-acre campus reflect the beauty of the Northwest. Patients and staff enjoy panoramic
views of the Cascade and Olympic mountains from our 11-story patient tower. You will
also appreciate our newly renovated facility. We have recently expanded and remodeled
our emergency center, diagnostic imaging, critical care, laboratory, operating suites and
every patient floor. A new 21-bed universal care unit will be completed in 2012 to meet the
demands of our growing population.
Our major service lines include heart, cancer, orthopedics and neurosciences. We also have
a busy emergency/trauma center, a large family birth center, a pediatrics unit (including a
special-care nursery), and critical care, telemetry and medical-surgical units. Our campus
includes a freestanding inpatient psychiatry unit as well as a separate facility for outpatient
surgery and inpatient and outpatient physical rehabilitation. We also operate a chemical
dependency treatment center nearby. Other campus features include medical office buildings,
elderly housing, hotel accommodations for patients’ families and an extended-care facility.
Medical Staff
Our medical staff comprises approximately 500 physicians, including those in private practice
and about 130 who are part of the growing Providence Physician Network in southwest
Washington. We also have a growing staff of employed and contracted hospitalists who provide
24/7 coverage for medical-surgical, labor and delivery, oncology, orthopedic and pediatric
patients. The physician network includes our family practice residency program that operates
in affiliation with the University of Washington.
In 2010, the Providence Physician Network opened our first “medical home” primary care
clinic, which operates as a pilot clinic and primary care prototype for Providence Health &
Services throughout our five-state system.
Special Recognition
Over the years, Providence St. Peter Hospital
has won many awards for clinical excellence,
including Solucient’s 100 Top Hospitals for
cardiac surgery, cardiology, stroke care and
orthopedics. In 2010, we were recognized for
nursing excellence with Magnet designation
from the American Nurses Credentialing
Center, a distinction achieved by only 4
percent of the nation’s hospitals.
