Living in Alaska
Alaska is a land of adventure. It is more than twice the size of Texas and holds
a bigger-than-life bouquet of cultures, land formations and recreation opportunities.
Some of the planet's best fishing, most pristine ecosystems, oldest languages and
amazing scenery can be found in Alaska.
Providence's facilities are located in some of the most livable and popular parts
of the state, granting easy access to the world-famous Kenai Peninsula, magnificent
Prince William Sound, and Mount McKinley, North America's highest peak. Our locations
offer a range of lifestyle and community choices.
Anchorage is a modern American city with a symphony, world-class cuisine,
several museums, two universities and 285,000 people. What makes it an exceptional
place is the juxtaposition of modern and urban with wild and scenic. Where else
can you fish for salmon in the shadow of skyscrapers, or see a moose on your way
to a Broadway play?
Kodiak is a busy small city on Kodiak Island famous for fishing, huge Kodiak
brown bears and lush forested mountains. But the 14,000 Kodiak Islanders also pride
themselves on lesser known features, including excellent public and private schools,
organized youth sports, several churches, museums preserving the island's fascinating
history, and frequent community events.
Seward Thanks to its location at the head of world-famous Resurrection Bay,
the population of this small town nearly doubles to about 6,000 people during the
summer. But every patient at PSMCC is treated like family. Our terrific community
health care team offers an array of services including emergency, inpatient, physical
therapy and on-site lab and imaging.
Valdez is widely known for its critical deep-water port where oil tankers
pick up Alaska crude. It is also home to a major commercial fishing fleet. About
4,350 year-round residents keep this busy, beautiful place buzzing. Winter brings
some of the best heli-skiing in the world, and snow gives way to lush summer grasses
and berries in this temperate coastal zone.
