The Power of Pink
What started as a video for a nursing conference has blossomed into a tribute to those affected by cancer, creating interest around the globe and a sense of hometown pride for Oregonians.
Providence St. Vincent Medical Center was approached by Medline Industries, manufacturer of pink exam gloves, to partner in developing the video. More than 200 employees representing diverse roles throughout the hospital volunteered to dance in the video.
The “Pink Glove Dance” video was posted on YouTube on Nov. 13, 2009, and reached 1 million hits on Thanksgiving Day, 13 days later. Since then, the video has surpassed 10 million views, inspiring more than 7,000 comments, including some video responses posted on this page.
Recently, the Providence Pink Glove Dancers dazzled the crowd at Portland's Starlight Parade. Enjoy this video of parade highlights and interviews.
Providence St. Vincent employees were also among the thousands of people who danced for America's Got Talent scouts- when they came to Portland.
Inspiration
Letters, e-mails and phone calls continue to pour in. We truly appreciate your kind words of support. We are inspired by your stories and by the strength of those who have been diagnosed with cancer.
Here are some of the comments we’ve received:
This is awesome; I could not stop crying. It means a lot to me because I have had five people close to me with breast cancer and many others close to me with other cancers, and just today I found out that someone else has breast cancer. So thank you again for this video.” - mamaslittle3
This summer I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a bilateral mastectomy there at St. Vincent. I saw two of my three surgeons in the video, and I never had to wait on either one of them to provide me with excellent care. My experience at St. Vincent made me feel like the whole hospital was on my side. Thank you, Dr. Conlin, Dr. Soot, Dr. Popowich, great staff at Transitions, radiology/ultrasound, and the great staff on the sixth floor!” - cpoland914
