Heart Attack Warning Signs

Common Warning Signs:

  • Uncomfortable pressure, fullness, squeezing or pain in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes or goes away and then returns
  • Pain that spreads to the shoulders, neck or arms
  • Chest discomfort with light-headedness, fainting, sweating, nausea or shortness of breath

Additional Warning Signs:

  • Unusual chest, stomach or abdominal pain
  • Nausea or dizziness
  • Shortness of breath, difficulty breathing
  • Unexplained anxiety, weakness or fatigue
  • Palpitations, cold sweat or paleness

Not all of these signs occur in every heart attack. Sometimes the signs occur, go away and then return again. If you experience these signs, call 9-1-1 immediately. Every second counts. The sooner you seek medical help, the better your chance for survival.
