Providence Centralia Hospital’s Orthopedic Surgical Staff Wins National Award for Total Hip Replacements

CENTRALIA, Wash.--Providence Centralia Hospital’s orthopedic surgical team has received an OR Benchmarks award for being one of the nation’s best performers for total hip replacements.

Providence Centralia Hospital was benchmarked against 86 other cases at 18 different hospitals across the country in a study of total hip replacements conducted by OR Benchmarks, a national surgery benchmarking organization. The award was based on a number of criteria, including total procedural cost, supply and labor costs, and time efficiencies for intraoperative care events.

"This award is a reflection of our skilled surgical staff," says Lorie Khorsand, surgical services manager at Providence Centralia Hospital. "Credit goes to the entire team, including operating room staff, Washington Orthopaedic Center surgeons, anesthesia personnel, nursing unit staff for pre-operative and post-operative care, materials staff, pharmacy staff, vendors and customer service representatives."

Providence Centralia Hospital, a 191-bed facility, tied for the award with Mission St. Joseph Hospital in Ashville, N.C., an 804-bed facility. Compared with Mission St. Joseph, Providence Centralia Hospital’s cost was lower, procedure time was 18 minutes less and turnover times were the best of any hospital in the study.

Providence Centralia Hospital, part of the Providence Health System, is a not-for-profit hospital serving Lewis County with comprehensive medical, surgical and educational services.
