Providence St. Peter Hospital Offers Free Lifeline
Personal Emergency Response System Installation in March

OLYMPIA—Lifeline, a 24-hour personal emergency response system, can help elderly, chronically ill or physically challenged people live more independently in their own homes. During the month of March, Providence St. Peter Hospital is offering free Lifeline installation, which usually costs $30.

Lifeline connects subscribers to the support of neighbors, friends and emergency services in the community. By pressing a button worn around the neck or wrist, an individual can directly contact trained staff at Lifeline Central, Providence St. Peter Hospital’s emergency response center. The personal help button functions up to 250 feet away from a home unit that is connected to a telephone.

When a call is received, the monitoring station pulls up a subscriber’s Lifeline information on a computer and calls the home to see if the person needs help. If there is no answer, the operator will contact a designated responder–a person who has agreed to help the subscriber. If necessary, the operator will send an ambulance or Medic I to the home. Lifeline Central remains in contact until the emergency is resolved.

Lifeline monthly monitoring fees cost $30-$35. For more information or to request a registration form, call (360) 493-7481. Forms must be submitted by March 18 to be eligible for free installation.

Lifeline services are provided in Thurston and Mason counties. Providence St. Peter Hospital and the Lacey Lamplighters Lions Club work together to bring this service to the community. Lacey Lamplighters Lions Club volunteers have been installing the Lifeline service in homes throughout Thurston County for the past 20 years.

Providence St. Peter Hospital, founded by the Sisters of Providence in 1887, is a not-for profit 390-bed hospital serving the five-county South Sound region with comprehensive medical, surgical and mental health services.
