Providence St. Peter Hospital Heart Program Among Best in the Nation
Providence St. Peter Hospital’s heart program has earned national recognition for outstanding clinical quality from the two leading independent companies in the U.S. that analyze hospital benchmark data.
HealthGrades named Providence St. Peter Hospital as the number one hospital in Washington state for cardiology and interventional cardiology, ranking it among the top 10 percent in the nation. The hospital also received "five star" ratings for heart attack and stroke care. Solucient named Providence St. Peter Hospital as one of the Solucient 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals. The strictly empirical analyses identify those hospitals that have achieved excellence in care, efficiency of operations and sustainability of cardiovascular performance. This is the second time (out of four studies) that Providence St. Peter Hospital has been recognized as a Solucient 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospital.
"For us, this is no different than winning the World Series!" said Bill Gavin, M.D., medical director for the Providence St. Peter Hospital Heart Program. "These awards are yet another affirmation that the entire hospital has a commitment to quality."
For overall cardiac services in Washington, HealthGrades ranked Providence Everett as number one, Providence St. Peter as number two and Providence Yakima as number three.
The only other hospitals in Washington to achieve Solucient 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospital were Providence Everett and Sacred Heart Medical Center, which is also sponsored by the Sisters of Providence.

MD Recognized
St. Peter Family Practice Residency faculty member Devin Sawyer, M.D., is the 2002 recipient of the Patient Care Award for Patient Education and Innovation from The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine. The award acknowledges the work that Dr. Sawyer has done in implementing unique "group visits" for diabetes management, teen pregnancies and well child checkups.

NursePlus Partners With 9-1-1
Providence St. Peter Hospital’s 24-hour telephone nurse consulting service, NursePlus, is now taking non-emergency calls transferred to them by emergency dispatchers at 9-1-1. Directors of CAPCOM, Medic One and NursePlus entered an agreement for NursePlus to provide nurse consultations to people who call 911 for minor problems that don’t require an emergency medical unit dispatch. This will save time for the 9-1-1 dispatchers and provide a better service for callers. The public can call the registered nurses at NursePlus directly by dialing 360/493-4111. The service is free.

Bond Elected to WSHA Board
Scott Bond, CEO for Providence Health System in Southwest Washington and administrator for Providence St. Peter Hospital, was elected secretary-treasurer of the Washington State Hospital Association Board. He also begins serving a term on the board of the Washington State Medical Association.
