Maternal Child Health Services

Maternal Child Health (MCH) provides preventive health and education services to women who are either pregnant or within the first two months of the postpartum period. Services are designed to supplement medical visits and include assessment, education, intervention and counseling. An interdisciplinary team of community health nurses, nutritionists, social workers and community health workers work together to provide interventions as early in pregnancy as possible to promote positive birth and parenting outcomes.

Maternal Child Health services are available to pregnant women who qualify for state-funded medical insurance (Medicaid). Services can be initiated during the prenatal, delivery or postpartum periods.

MCH is an excellent system for women who have lacked the support and opportunities conducive to positive pregnancy outcomes due to circumstances such as poor role modeling, drug and alcohol abuse, lack of education, inadequate housing, cultural differences, and/or poverty. MCH team members work in partnership with clients to develop mutual goals and interdisciplinary plans to achieve successful outcomes.
