Resident Lifestyle & Wellness

We're not going to lie to you ... our residency program is challenging and the training schedule can be demanding. That's why we feel strongly about making sure our residents have some balance between their work and personal lives. Our Resident Wellness Committee plans social events and activities for you and your family. We want you to have a successful residency experience and still have time for some fun! 2009 triathalon

Balance and Wellness
The Resident Wellness Committee, consisting of residents and faculty, plans events and oversees the wellness budget. A variety of activities are planned throughout the year, including participation on sports teams and social events. From soccer, bicycling and fly fishing to picnics and holiday parties, we're sure you'll find an activity you'll enjoy. Spouses and children can participate, too.

An annual "all resident retreat" is held in the fall. Family members are welcome to participate in this three-day event. An interns' retreat is held in early summer.

Free Fitness Center membership at the hospital Fitness Center is available for all residents.

There are regularly scheduled support groups for each class. These groups are facilitated by graduates of the program. Residents determine the focus of each group meeting; the senior resident support group uses a Balint format.

Call Schedule

  • First and second year residents have two months of night float per year, starting Sunday night through Thursday night.
  • Weekend call is shared by the other rotations and works out to be two nights of call per month per resident either Friday or Saturday night. There are two "no call" months per year.
  • Third year residents take call from home.
