Providence St. Peter Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program offers several rotations for students from allopathic or osteopathic U.S. medical schools.
Observerships
First and second year students may spend from one to four weeks shadowing faculty and residents in our outpatient clinical practice and on hospital teaching services at Providence St. Peter Hospital. This experience allows the student to get a closer look at residency training in Family Medicine. Our busy practice provides the student with exposure to a broad spectrum of preventive care for children and adults, new strategies in chronic disease management and OB-Gyn care. Our adult medicine hospital teaching service cares for patients from our practice as well as those admitted with no local physician and patients admitted by private physicians on the medical staff.
Clerkships
We are an approved sight for the required third year Family Medicine clerkship for the University Of Washington School Of Medicine. The premier medical school for family practice training in the nation, UW‘s Affiliated Family Practice Residency Network provides much of the training for its students in Family Medicine. The 6 week required clerkship is based in the Family Practice Center, where students see patients with a senior resident or family practice faculty member.
We are pleased to offer this 4 to 6 week clerkship to third year students in good standing from other U.S. medical schools as well. If you are considering a career as a Family Physician this opportunity will provide exposure to an excellent training program. We strive to help you become more independent as the rotation progresses and to learn the joys of doctor-patient interactions in a patient-centered care environment.
Sub-Internships
An advanced rotation of 4 to 6 weeks duration for those who wish to expand their skills in either inpatient or ambulatory practice is available for fourth year students interested in Family Medicine. The rotation can be tailored to your needs as you work with our residents in the hospital, the office or a mixture of the two. When taking call with the residents, you will cover the full spectrum of patient care with them, including adult and pediatric admissions, deliveries and interesting emergency department cases. We welcome your participation in all aspects of the program during your time with us.
Accommodations
We will help you arrange inexpensive living quarters for yourself (and family if needed) at your expense. Please provide evidence of malpractice insurance from your school, your transcript and letter of reference from a faculty member at your school.
