Cancer Center Programs

The Cancer Registry
Cancer is a "reportable disease" in the State of Washington. In other words, physicians are required to report the incidence of cancer just as they are for tuberculosis, hepatitis, and other diseases.

Cancer is a disease for which best treatment requires that the patient be followed for life. The best mechanism to ensure this continuity of care is a Cancer Registry, which documents the significant elements of your medical history, acts as a repository for the information, and periodically prompts your physician to follow up with you.

In addition, as the "core" of the Regional Cancer Center, the Cancer Registry monitors new methods of treatment, diagnostic elements, access to rehabilitation, prevention trials and education, and any and all other aspects of cancer care.

Volunteer Services
Volunteers of the Regional Cancer Center provide invaluable service to our current patients. Many volunteers are successfully adjusted cancer survivors themselves, offering hope to the recently diagnosed or those having a particularly difficult time coping with their illness.

Through participation in the Buddy Program, volunteers are matched with current patients undergoing intensive treatment to offer support and guidance. Volunteers also staff the Cancer Information Center, participate in support groups and screenings, and offer their talents in other ways. If you would like to volunteer in our program, please call (360) 493-7960.

Support Groups and Education
The Regional Cancer Center is dedicated to offering cancer-related health screening and education to the general public, as well as strong emotional support via support groups for cancer patients. For information call (360) 493-4300.

Visit our links to Support Groups and Cancer Center Classes to find up-to-date information that suits your particular interests.

The Sunshine House
Right next to Providence St. Peter Hospital, Sunshine House offers low-cost guest rooms for family members and patients who have to travel long distances to receive chemotherapy and radiation therapy. For information, call (360) 493-7900.
