Cancer Survivorship

New Pilot Program for Cancer Survivors
The Providence Regional Cancer System, in collaboration with RadiantCare Radiation Oncology, has launched a pilot program to help cancer patients transition from the active treatment phase to survivorship.

Cobie, Whitten, PhDCobie Whitten, Ph.D., is currently meeting with cancer patients (and a family member or friend if they choose) at our Lewis County Cancer Center. She provides people with information, resources and support as they transition to the next stage of their journey — survivorship. Cancer survivors include anyone who has ever received a diagnosis of cancer. Beginning in 2010-2011, we hope to offer monthly educational classes for newly diagnosed patients, survivorship education resource materials and end-of-active treatment consultations.

Dr. Whitten, who holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has extensive experience working with cancer patients and currently chairs the Survivorship Committee of the Washington State Comprehensive Cancer Control Partnership. Providence St. Peter Foundation provided funding for this program. For more information, please call 360-493-4936.
