John Brottem, M.D.
Medical Director
John Brottem, M.D., is the founder and medical director of the Sleep Center for Southwest Washington – Providence St. Peter. He is a pioneer in diagnosing and treating sleep apnea.

Dr. Brottem is certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine and also holds board certifications in pulmonary disease, internal medicine and critical care medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University, as well as a fellowship in pulmonary diseases. He conducted an internship with the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont and received his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Gerald Hermanson, Ph.D.
Director, Insomnia Program
Dr. Hermanson has more than 20 years of experience in behavioral sleep medicine. He holds a Doctorate in counseling psychology, with a specialization in health psychology from Michigan State University. He completed a clinical psychology internship at Pine Rest Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He earned his master's degree in applied behavioral science from Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington. He formerly held a faculty appointment at the College of Osteopathic Medicine, Michigan State University and at Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington.

Dr. Hermanson is a licensed psychologist and has been a consulting psychologist to several hospital programs, including Inpatient and Outpatient Medical Rehabilitation, Pain Management Program and the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
