Education Classes
• Arthritis Foundation Exercise Class
Doctors and therapists know that moderate physical activity can improve your health without hurting your joints. This senior exercise class is made available by the Arthritis Foundation, in conjunction with Encore/Oasis, an older adult program. It is an exercise program designed specifically for people with arthritis that uses gentle activities to:

• Healthy Living with Diabetes
In this comprehensive 4-part series (10 hours total), participants receive important information and training in the skills needed for living with diabetes.
Time: Tuesday morning or Tuesday evening classes are available depending on the month. Please call for more info.

• Diabetes Nutrition Class
This class covers more in depth nutrition information. A knowledge of basic diabetes care is necessary to benefit from this class.
Time: Fridays, 9:30 a.m.

• Basic Diabetes Education
This 3-hour class covers the basics of good diabetes care, including:

What is diabetes?

What are the effects of diet, activity, medication and stress on blood sugar levels? - Testing your own blood sugar

Preventing acute complications

The importance of good foot care

Nutrition-healthy eating guidelines and understanding the food guide pyramid

Community resources that are available

Blood glucose meter training (when needed)

Insulin administration instruction (when needed)
Fee: Most insurance will pay for this program with physician referral.
Time: Wednesdays, 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

• Diabetes and Pregnancy
Women with gestational diabetes, Type 1 or Type 2 will receive extensive eduation about delivering a healthy baby.
Time: Thursdays, 9:30 a.m - 12:30 p.m. (English). Spanish language classes are available by appointment only.

• Carbohydrate Counting
This session is offered to individuals on insulin who wish to improve overall blood sugar control through insulin adjustment based upon carbohydrate intake.
Time: These sessions are available by appointment only.
Additional one-on-one appointments are available based upon the individual needs of the patient.

Support Groups
• Diabetes Support Group
Come meet with a support group to share your experiences, feelings and thought about diabetes. This group is facilitated by educators of the Diabetes Care Center and will help:

People with diabetes and their families members

Increase understanding of diabetes

Recognize and remove "road blocks" that prevent better control

Provide skills to cope with every day life

• Valley Pumpers Diabetes Support Group
This support group is for all those who are using an insulin pump or who are interested in insulin pump therapy.
This group shares knowledge, experiences and concerns at a very practical level. Strength and hope are gained from sharing stories and learning from one another.
Time & Location:Last Thursday of each month, 7:30-8:30 p.m. Providence Tarzana Medical Center, North Conf. Rm. 3.

• Early Loss Support Group
A support group for families dealing with miscarriage, medical termination of pregnancy, stillborn loss and newborn loss issues.

• Young Adult Network Arthritis Support Group
An informal free support group designed to meet the needs and concerns of young adults between the ages of 20 - 45 years with arthritis and other related rheumatic diseases.
