Thanks to a generous grant from the Swindells Charitable Trust, the Jean Baton Swindells Resource Center for Children and Families has opened four satellite centers throughout Oregon. Currently, the Swindells Resource Center has one location in the state: Providence Child Center in Portland.
The grant allows the program to quadruple their efforts, which last year included answering nearly 7,000 parenting questions about children with special needs. The resource center is available to any family member or caregiver with a medically fragile child or a child with complex developmental needs.
The center started in 1994 with the financial support of Bill and Ann Swindells, through the Swindells Charitable Trust, as a tribute to their daughter Jean, who had Down Syndrome. Jean died at age 35. The Swindells wanted to honor her memory with a resource center.
"Parents
need support," said Bill Swindells. "Too often,
parents of children with special needs don’t know to whom they can
turn."
Thank you to the Swindells Charitable Trust for their generosity
in helping to serve the most vulnerable in our community.
