The story begins in the 1940s in the close-knit Portland community of Laurelhurst. As one of eight children, John Harrington learned two of life's guiding principles from his parents, Bernie and Madeline: Always do good for others. Always do your best. The fruits of those lessons are visible decades later in the Harrington Family Foundation.

John and Valerie Harrington never set out to establish a foundation. Nor did they set out to have a superstar football player for a son. But they now have both, and Joey and his brothers, Michael and Nick, join their parents in celebrating blessings in their lives by applying those two long-held family lessons.
