Bill Moore didn’t waste time in taking advantage of the Pension Protection Act of 2006, which allows direct gifts from individual retirement accounts (IRAs) to qualified charities. “When I heard about the new law, I was very pleased, but I knew I had to act quickly,” he says. “The provision makes gifts like this possible only through 2007.”

With help from the Providence Office of Gift Planning, Bill was able to transfer $100,000 of his IRA directly to Providence Cancer Center. “In this way, the funds are available today,” he says, “and I can see how my contribution will enhance cancer research and care in the Northwest.”
