An Important Message for our Clients and Stakeholders
August 18, 2017—Our marketing and communication team has gone through a very difficult time this week and I wanted to share what is happening, as job reductions in our department may result in changes to the level of support being provided to your area.
26% Caregiver Reduction / 89% Caregiver Role Change
On Monday, we began notifying marketing and communication caregivers from across the system of their status as we restructure the department. In addition to meeting new affordability targets, this restructure is integrating teams from across Providence St. Joseph Health into a single, aligned department to better serve the organization. In total, 56 caregivers, representing 26% of our team system-wide, were notified that their positions had been eliminated. In addition, most of the remaining caregivers were notified of role or reporting changes that will be effective September 18.
An Ask for Patience as We Transition
For the next three weeks, we will be entering a transition period as we prepare for the departure of our team members and move others into new roles. During this period, we expect to slow down or pause many projects while we restructure and begin the process of rebuilding. We will also not be taking on any new work (apart from urgent, critical work approved by our leadership team) through at least mid-September. We ask for your patience, understanding and support as we build the foundation for the future.
75% Impact to In-House Creative Services
One of the areas of greatest impact is a significant reduction in our creative services team. What had been a multi-disciplinary team of 43 will become a team of 12 made up of graphic designers and copywriters. This 75% reduction in staff, and the elimination of certain skill sets, will have a dramatic impact on projects currently underway, particularly in marketing, so we again ask for your patience and grace as we evaluate and complete the 275 work requests already queued up for this team.

You will undoubtedly hear about caregivers you have worked with who were impacted by job loss, and we want to emphasize that this change is part of a transformation required to sustain our Mission for the future. The decision to let these team members go in no way reflects on their value as colleagues or their contributions to this organization. Please join us in thanking them for their years of service and for all they have done. Every one of these talented individuals, and the many gifts they have brought to our work, will be missed.
