Jody grew up in Southern California, and attended Yale University for her bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies. During the first three years after college, Jody taught English in Costa Rica where she became fluent in Spanish. Upon her return to the US, Jody lived in Texas where she worked as a bilingual home parent educator and volunteered with the March of Dimes providing prenatal education to Spanish-speaking, undocumented immigrant families. In 2000, Jody was awarded a National Health Service Corps Scholarship to study to become a nurse-midwife. Jody completed her nurse-midwifery training in 2002 at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. Before coming to Oregon, Jody lived in Lowell, Massachusetts where she helped start the midwifery practice at a local community health center.
Jody believes there are few events in life as humbling as watching a woman give herself over to the rhythms of birth. She feels privileged to be a part of this moment with so many women and their families. She is dedicated to empowering women to make informed decisions regarding their reproductive health and advocating for their right to make those decisions.
In her spare time, Jody enjoys eating out, music, quilting, cycling, and hiking.
