Edward J. O'Connor, MD

Edward J. O'Connor, MD, FAAN, practices at Neurological Associates of West Los Angeles in Santa Monica, California, where he’s dedicated to working closely with each patient, listening to their concerns, and developing a treatment that’s customized to meet their needs. While he treats the full range of neurological disorders, he specializes in the diagnosis and compassionate treatment of pain. After graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Medicine, Dr. O’Connor completed two years of medical residency at the University of California Affiliated Hospitals, Harbor UCLA Medical Center, and the UCLA Medical Center. Then he took time to travel before entering his neurology residency at UCLA, where he was honored to be named as Chief Resident in Neurology. After graduating, Dr. O’Connor worked as a registrar at the National Hospital for Nervous Disease in Queen Square and Maida Vale, London. During that time, he learned traditional British clinical neurology under professor Ian McDonald and others. Dr. O’Connor is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (FAAN). He’s certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, as well as the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He has also been certified in MRI and CT diagnostic imaging by the American Society of Neuroimaging and is trained as a NeuroStar® transcranial magnetic stimulation therapy provider. Dr. O’Connor spent eight years at White Memorial Medical Center, serving as Chief, Section of Neurology and as Director of the Rehabilitation Unit. He was also Chief, Section of Neurology at Santa Monica Hospital and Secretary of the St. John’s Hospital Medical Staff. He’s a clinical associate professor of neurology at UCLA and USC. In 1986, he entered private practice with fellow UCLA Neurologists, opening the Neurological Associates of West Los Angeles. In addition to serving as a Qualified Medical Evaluator, Dr. O’Connor is available to provide second opinions on neurological conditions and neurosurgery. Dr. O’Connor is married and has three sons. He participates in the UCLA Masters swimming program and stays involved in rugby as coach of a Los Angeles high school team. He has been elected to three rugby Halls of Fame: UCLA Rugby, Santa Monica Rugby Club, and the Albuquerque Rugby Club.
