Mary Henningsgaard, PA-C, chose to specialize in cardiothoracic surgery because it is a field that combines both extensive surgical skills and medical management of patients. As a Physician Assistant, she is able to be a patient advocate and work closely with patients throughout the surgical process, ensuring that they are comfortable and understand the plan of care.
Mary attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for both her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She completed her Bachelors in Health Science in 2014, then earned a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies in 2015.
Mary believes in taking a holistic approach to her patients’ health. “I studied traditional Chinese medicine during my training and it has continued to influence my current practice,” says Mary. “I encourage patients to be an advocate of their health and routinely take care of their bodies through nutrition and regular exercise.”
Mary is an avid reader and loves spending time outside, especially running, hiking, and skiing.
