About Daniel C. Rohrer
Dr. Rohrer is a board-certified neurosurgeon who has been practicing in Portland, Oregon since 1994. He treats a variety of neurosurgical conditions, including complex brain, pituitary, skull base, and spinal tumors, as well as a variety of degenerative spinal disorders, peripheral nerve tumors and syndromes. He operates primarily at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, where his office is located. He performs stereotactic radiosurgery at the Gamma Knife Center of Oregon. Dr. Rohrer has been a regional leader in minimally invasive neuroendoscopic brain and skull base surgery for over 25 years. As the Medical Director for Cranial Surgery at Providence Brain and Spine Institute since 2005, he has helped develop programs for minimally invasive surgery, neuroendoscopy, and high-field intra-operative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI). This technology allows surgeons to resect brain tumors more precisely and completely, thus increasing survival while lowering complications and the likelihood of needing further surgery. Dr. Rohrer also specializes in cervical artificial disk replacement and minimally invasive lumbar surgery, which maintain spinal stability while lowering the need for fusion. He is the first surgeon in the world to have successfully implanted an artificial cervical disk in a fighter jet pilot and has since treated several others. . Dr. Rohrer obtained his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience from the University of Rochester. He earned his medical degree from New York Medical College. After undergoing a general surgery internship at North Shore University Hospital, a teaching center of Cornell University Medical College, he completed his residency in neurological surgery at Oregon Health Sciences University. Dr. Rohrer has also studied neuropathology at the University of Washington and has published research in molecular neurobiology and neural transplantation.
