Emily W. Puterbaugh, MD

I was raised by a pediatrician in Louisville, Kentucky and found the idea of going into medicine intriguing as a young child following my dad to work. My journey westward began in college at the University of Colorado at Boulder. I then followed my love of the outdoors and taught snowboarding for a year, before pursuing a degree in medicine back home at the University of Louisville. I found the perfect place to blend all of my passions here in Portland with the great outdoors, OHSU pediatric residency program, and the clincher: I met my husband! We have settled down to stay and now have two incredible kids.

I consider it a privilege to be chosen as your child’s pediatrician and trusted to care for your precious little one(s). I try to make visits fun for your child whenever I can, knowing that they are the focus. In my practice I focus on preventative care and am a strong advocate for vaccination. I also focus on health maintenance, growth and development, and injury prevention. As your child’s pediatrician, I try to be a point person for families to help navigate the healthcare system and will always advocate for your child. Our team will help to coordinate care with specialists or other ancillary services if it is needed.

I love all areas of pediatrics, but especially taking care of newborns and infants in their first year of life. It is a time of growth and change that comes with many opportunities and challenges. I am always thrilled to see how much children and their families grow and change over the years - there is nothing quite like it.

My interests outside of medicine include playing outside with my husband (Rex Puterbaugh, also a pediatrician at the Children’s Clinic) and our young children. We love running, biking, hiking, swimming, snowboarding, camping, traveling and gardening. I also love cooking and exploring new recipes with fresh veggies from the garden.
