Dr. Charles Cannan believes his most important role as a physician is to provide educated and compassionate care to all of his patients. "I will care for each patient as best I can, by today's standards, and apply this to each person as an individual," he says. In his practice, Dr. Cannan enjoys combining science, technology and human interaction for the specific benefit of each individual patient. "This is the "art" of medicine," he says.
After earning his medical degree from the University of Cape Town in South Africa, Dr. Cannan completed his internship at Cape Town's Groote Schuur Hospital, where he served as an intern under the cardiologists involved with the world's first human heart transplant. He completed his residency and fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Dr. Cannan has a wife and two children. He is a former surfer and a lover of red wine, food and golf.
