Dr. Steven L. Dixon is a board-certified Dermatologist and is also fellowship trained and Board Certified in Dermatopathology (microscopic diagnosis of skin disease and skin cancer.) His professional areas of interest include general dermatologic diseases, skin cancer detection and treatment, and Dermatopathology. Dr. Dixon has over 30 years of experience treating dermatology patients in an academic setting and private practice. Dr. Dixon is passionate about providing exceptional care to each of his patients by providing expert dermatological services and education on the prevention and treatment of skin conditions. Dr. Dixon graduated from Brigham Young University, where he was in the Honors Program and graduated magna cum laude. He attended medical school at the University of Utah College of Medicine, where he was selected to receive a Health Professions Scholarship by the U.S. Air Force, participated in the Internal Medicine Honors Program, and graduated with honors as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his Internal Medicine internship at Keesler USAF Medical Center in Biloxi, MS. and his Dermatology residency program at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. He scored in the top 1% on his pre-board examination and was invited to join the faculty of the Dermatology residency program where he helped train doctors to become dermatologists. After two years on the faculty, Dr. Dixon was selected by the Air Force to receive sub-specialty training in Dermatopathology so that he could read skin biopsies for the Air Force. He completed his Dermatopathology fellowship at New York University in New York City under the tutelage of A. Bernard Ackerman, M.D., a world-renowned Dermatopathologist. Dr. Dixon then returned to Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio. Texas, where he read skin biopsies and taught Dermatology and Pathology residents how to read skin biopsies, and continued to train doctors to become dermatologists. Dr. Dixon has given numerous presentations and lectures at medical meetings all over the United States. He is the co-author of a chapter in two medical books and has 14 publications in medical journals. After completing his commitment to the Air Force, Dr. Dixon entered private practice at the Ogden Clinic in Ogden, UT. He also provided back up Dermatopathology coverage and practiced Dermatopathology part time at the Division of Dermatology at the University of Utah College of Medicine. In the summer of 1991, Dr. Dixon moved to Spokane where he has practiced Dermatology and Dermatopathology since that time. Dr. Dixon and his wife, Emarene, are the parents of four children and 13 grandchildren. Dr. Dixon is an avid fly fisherman and ties his own flies. He is actively involved in his church. In his spare time, he and his wife enjoy camping and traveling. Dr. Dixon joined Advanced Dermatology & Skin Surgery in 2017 and we are thrilled to welcome him and his staff to our team.
