Dr. Svetlana Kotova is a board certified thoracic surgeon; she joined Providence Health and Services in November, 2014. Early in her career, she developed an interest in chest cancer and this propelled her to focus on thoracic surgical oncology. As a member of Providence Cancer Institute, Dr. Kotova closely collaborates with a number of talented, innovative, and highly-trained physicians, medical and radiation oncologists, pulmonologists, and radiologists.
Utilizing a multidisciplinary approach is the key to delivering the best patient care. Many of Dr. Kotova's patients are participants in clinical trials. As a surgeon, Dr. Kotova performs a wide range of operations on the chest, lungs and trachea to treat diseases. With the evolution of surgery towards minimally-invasive approaches, she started using robotic surgery and was the first surgeon at Providence Portland Medical Center to do a robotic lobectomy, a type of operation for lung cancer. Dr. Kotova has published her work in the leading journals in the field of thoracic surgery.
