Michelle R. Smith, MD

Shelley (Michelle) R. C. Smith, M.D., is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School. Throughout her career, Dr. Smith has cared for patients who have chronic pain. She helped develop and launch the Occupational Medicine Department at Providence Hood River where she cared for injured workers for fifteen years. As the field of neuroscience advanced and our understanding of what creates Persistent Pain evolved, Dr. Smith researched additional treatment options to bring to her patients. This led her to seek certification through the Academy for Guided Imagery, and to help bring Pain Education and Habit Formation classes to Providence Hood River. In 2014, she joined Columbia Pain Management where she developed their one-on-one pain education program. Dr. Smith continues to coach patients on how pain works in the body so that they can develop effective strategies to decrease pain and return to their active lives.
