Elyssa Ackerman, M.D., was drawn to a career in medicine for its life-long learning opportunities and for the personal relationships she can develop with her patients. "I chose family medicine after completing a community health rotation in southern Oregon, where I closely followed the same patients both in clinic and in the hospital," says Dr. Ackerman. In her practice, Dr. Ackerman believes her most important role is to be an advocate for her patients. "I enjoy listening to my patients and communicating information to help guide them toward decisions that positively affect their health," she said. Dr. Ackerman earned her bachelor's degree in nutrition science from Oregon State University in Corvallis and her medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. Born in West Virginia and raised in Oregon, Dr. Ackerman enjoys all things outdoors, including rock climbing, hiking and gardening.
