Dr. Rubinstein went into orthopedic surgery because he instantly related to the specialty as a medical student. He found it to be particularly fitting because he has always been mechanically inclined and has applied this to treating musculoskeletal conditions. He was fortunate to have excellent training in orthopedics as well as sports medicine and reconstructive knee surgery. He has been practicing now for almost 30 years and has seen his practice evolve to mainly outpatient procedures, including joint replacement. He prides himself in taking care of the whole patient and trying to understand that particular person’s expectations and goals. He enjoys forming relationships with and learning from his patients. He has been involved in outpatient total joint replacement surgery for the last 10 years. His first outpatient procedure was inspired by a particular patient who wanted to recover at home. Dr. Rubinstein believes that when we take the time to listen, we can learn a lot from those around us. Dr. Rubinstein loves the proximity of Portland to so many outdoor activities including the mountains, the Columbia Gorge, and the coast. Outside of work, he likes being physically active including biking, hiking, tennis, and skiing. He and his wife enjoy camping and backpacking adventures. He also enjoys spending time with his two adult daughters. He also has a lifelong hobby of fixing and collecting old toys.
