Rebecca M. Mueller, MD, MPH

Rebecca Mueller, MD, MPH, has always wanted to help people since she was a young child. When she was in high school, a teacher encouraged her to consider staying in science and others encouraged her to consider being a physician. When she was in college she heard a lecturer encourage students to choose a career that "makes you come alive." At that point she knew that pediatrics was the job for her. "It is a privilege to partner with families in the care of their children," she says. "Watching kids grow and change and exceed even their own expectations is a tremendous blessing."

In her practice, Dr. Mueller emphasizes a team approach to care and believes everyone brings their own expertise to the table. "Parents are experts on their children, and I bring expertise in medical and developmental knowledge," she says. "The physician-family relationship is a partnership with a single goal in mind -- helping your child feel his or her best."

Dr. Mueller puts a strong emphasis on wellness in her practice. "There is so much of the day to day that can affect a child's health and development in the long run," she says. "Emotional, social and physical aspects play such a large part of their current and future lives and are a part of what we address in the clinic." She is a great believer in the importance of care coordination. "While most kids are well, some kids need regular contact with the medical clinic and other community and school resources to make sure their medical and mental health needs are being met," she says. Dr. Mueller feels it's important to make these connections and facilitate seamless care for her patients.

A board-certified pediatrician, Dr. Mueller earned her medical degree from the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa and completed her internship and residency with the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. She also has a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Iowa.

Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Dr. Mueller is excited to live in place where the weather is more agreeable to year-round outdoor activities. She is married with three children and understands the daily challenges of trying to get everything done.
