After a loved one fell seriously ill, Ramesis Bacolod, MD, knew he wanted to pursue a career in family medicine. “That initial spark spurred me to become what I am today, a family physician,” he says. “I always have that insatiable desire to help and be of service to others.”
Dr. Bacolod believes a balance of physical, emotional, and intellectual health is essential for nurturing positive change. He encourages healthy lifestyle and behavior changes before prescribing medication or procedures and values patient-provider communication. “Establishing a relationship that is based on trust is what I enjoy the most as a provider,” he says. “I am devoted to safekeeping that relationship for many years to come.”
Born and raised in Cebu, a beautiful island province in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines, Dr. Bacolod completed his bachelor’s degree in biology at Cebu Doctors’ University; his medical degree at the Cebu Institute of Medicine; and his internship at Camp Lapulapu Army Station Hospital in Cebu City. After practicing medicine for the Cebu City government, he moved to the United States, where he completed his residency training at Altru Family Medicine Residency Pharmacy in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
The youngest of eight siblings, Dr. Bacolod is an avowed Star Wars fan. In his free time, he enjoys biking, kayaking, hiking—“everything outdoors”—and he speaks English and Filipino.
